Sand Harbor Kayaking : Lake Tahoe

Sand Harbor is located on the eastern shore Lake Tahoe off Route 28. It is managed by the Nevada State Park system. We find it to be one of the most beautiful places to visit in lake Tahoe. It has a nice sandy beach with shallow turquoise water. Great place to swim, snorkel or kayak when the water is warm. Huge boulders of granite have been arranged in the water as if someone put them there. A boardwalk runs parallel to the beach with various exhibits about the geology and flora around lake Tahoe.

The water was just warm enough to enjoy a dip. Kids were playing in their inflatable toys on the water. The beach was full as was the parking lot and the shoulder on the road outside the park.

We enjoyed Kayaking past the boulders and just sitting in the kayak rocking gently on the waves while watching the pattern of waves in the sand underneath.

Wish we had more time to play on the water...

The waves were gentle and the snow capped mountains reflected well in the water.
